The ORCA

The Oregon Reader’s Choice Award was started in 2010 as a way for Oregon children and young adults to read high quality, popular books and select the best of the best.

Use the links above to view the nominees for the 2013-2014 school year.  You can also post your comments about the books after you have read them.  After reading 2 or more books from one of the lists, you will be able to vote for your favorite book between March 1 and March 31, 2014.

The winners for the 2012-13 school year are:
Junior (Upper Elementary) Division: Meanwhile: Pick Any Path, 3856 Story Possibilities by Jason Shiga
Intermediate (Middle School) Division: Smile by Raina Telgemeier
Senior (High School) Division: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

I just found out that “Elephant Run” won the intermediate 2011 ORCA! What a fabulous honor! Thank you!

  2. Could you please explain exactly how readers vote on their favorite book from the nominated books list?

  3. Wendy Collins (Teacher-Librarian McKay/Raleigh Hills says:

When will this year’s ballots be available for download? Or can we create our own and just submit the numbers?

  4. Marcia Russell (Library/Media HSD) says:

Our school is planning to change from YRCA to ORCA books next year because ORCA selections seem more age appropriate. When will the 2013 selections be listed?

  5. Marcia Russell (Library/Media HSD) says:

Sorry, don’t mean to be pesky, but some of the other award sites have a date range for the next year’s selections. I don’t need a specific date, just an idea. It will help determine if we can actually switch to ORCA for purchasing, etc.
    Thank you!
