It’s Time for Oregon Kids and Teens to Vote!

It’s time to vote for the 2016 Oregon Reader’s Choice Award.  Students in elementary, middle or high school who have read two or more books in any of the three divisions, may vote for their favorite in that division.  Since there are a number of titles shared by Oregon Battle of the Books, any student who competed in this year’s OBOB is eligible to vote for the ORCA. Voting is open through March 31.

Click on the links below for the list of nominees in each division. Submit your favorite to your local school or public librarian.

Upper Elementary – Grades 3-5

Middle School Division – Grades 6-8

It’s Time to Vote!

Nominations for the 2017 Oregon Reader’s Choice Award are now closed.  As you can see here, the eligible titles for consideration give the committee many great books to choose from.  We’ll be working on selecting titles through March.  Nominations will be announced at the Oregon Library Association conference in Bend, April 20-22.

Meanwhile, it’s time for kids and teens to vote for the 2016 ORCA winners.  Votes can be submitted by teachers or librarians using this form.  Please have them submitted by the end of the day on April 1st.   Ballots and other materials can be found under the Resources tab on the blog’s navigation bar. Winners will be announced at OLA in April along with next year’s nominees.

Questions, comments, etc. can be sent to orca@olaweb.org.

Thank you for participating and promoting ORCA to your students!

Nominate a 2017 ORCA Title

ORCA is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Oregon Readers Choice Award titles.  The link will be open January 1 through February 29, 2016.

Titles nominated for the 2017 ORCA need a 2014 copyright date.  This delay ensures that the title will be readily available in paperback during the voting year.  You can nominate a title here.

Oregon students, this is your chance to nominate your favorites.  Oregon teachers and librarians are also eligible to nominate titles.

The nominations are reviewed by a committee of librarians and educators.  The committee selects the final titles based upon a number of criteria, including literary quality, creativity, reading enjoyment, reading level, and regional interest.

Then what happens? While the ORCA committee is working on selecting the titles for 2017, voting for the 2016 titles will be open to students in Oregon through the month of March.  The link for submitting votes will go live on March 1.

Oregon students in grades 4-12 can vote if they have read or listened to at least 2 books in one of the divisions.

The 2016 ORCA winners and the 2017 nominated titles will be announced at the Oregon Library Association Conference in April and posted on the ORCA website.
